Honeywell is a reputable brand that continues to offer above average products in a number of categories, and the dehumidifier market is one of the area where the brand shines the most.
With that said, the Honeywell DH70W has some problems that we wouldn’t normally expect from such a good and reputable brand. Yes, the dehumidifier is on-par with other 70-pint models on the market in terms of draining speed and performance, and it comes with a few extra features like temperature display and low temperature operation, but problems like leaking and the lack of defrost feature make the price for which the dehumidifier is sold very hard to justify.
But before making a definitive conclusion, let us review Honeywell DH70W 70-pint dehumidifier thoroughly. We’re sure you will have a very solid idea on whether or not you would want to buy this dehumidifier at the end of our review.

Detailed Features and Performance
Removes 70 pints of moisture per day
Honeywell DH70W is on-par with other 70-pint models like Frigidaire FFAD7033R1 and FAD704DWD which we have previously reviewed here. The speed with which the dehumidifier removes moisture from the air is exactly as you would expect from such a large capacity dehumidifier; the only problem is that the price difference between this model and the other two that we mentioned is hardly justifiable.
Large LED display with humidity, timer and temperature indicators
Although we are used to see LED displays that indicate the humidity levels and show the timer settings, DH70W takes this a step further and adds a temperature indicator into the display. As you may already know, the air temperature plays a significant role in terms of humidity removal, and it’s a very handy feature to have in a dehumidifier.
In fact, this is the only extra feature that you can’t find in any other comparable dehumidifier.
Continuous Drain Option
Using a 70-pint dehumidifier without the continuous drain option can become a big hassle very quickly as we highly doubt that you would love to empty the tank four or five times a day.
However, this Honeywell model seems to have a significant problem in that regard as many users report that the drain starts to leak after a while even when they don’t connect and/or use a hose. Although we didn’t observe this ourselves, we believe that many users reporting such a problem is an indication of a problematic unit.
Improved Portability
Honeywell DH70W is a heavy dehumidifier (which you should expect from such a high capacity dehumidifier), and it would be very hard to move around without nicely designed and implemented portability features.
Thankfully, Honeywell had done a good job in this regard; the integrated side handles and the caster wheels make dehumidifier easy to move. In terms of portability and mobility, the DH70W is up-to-par with the best models on the market.
Washable Air Filter
Another good feature provided by this Honeywell model is the easy to remove, washable air filter. Although you should not expect it to function as a full-fledged air purifier, this easy to maintain air filter will remove a significant amount of dust particles from the air, making it not only less humid but also easier to breathe.
Low Temperature Operation without Defrost
Honeywell 70-Pint dehumidifier can operate in low temperatures (down to 41 degrees Fahrenheit). While this is definitely a pro, lacking the defrost feature definitely takes away some of the value added by this feature.
The dehumidifier is equipped with a defrost light, but all it does is to indicate that the temperature is too low for the dehumidifier to run.
Verdict
- High capacity dehumidifier
- On-par with other 70-pint models in terms of speed and performance
- Large LED display with extra temperature indicator
- Improved mobility with side handles and caster wheels
- Low temperature operation
- Leaks water with and without using the garden hose feature
- No defrost feature
- Many users complain of the noise level
- Requires 12 inches of surrounding space
- Honeywell advises against use of an extension cord
- The price is higher than it should be in our opinion
Honeywell DH70W 70-Pint Energy Star Dehumidifier is a decent unit that does what it is supposed to do. It removes up to 70 pints of moisture from the air in a period of 24 hours with speed and performance comparable with the best models on the market.
However, the price tag on this unit is a bit steep, especially when you consider the lack of extra features that justify such a high price. On top of that, the unit has some downsides like leaking drain and loud operation.
We believe that unless you are sure that you want a Honeywell dehumidifier because you trust the brand, you would definitely be better off buying another model like Frigidaire FFAD7033R1.
