Friedrich D70BP 70 Pint Dehumidifier Review

The Friedrich D70BP 70 Pint Dehumidifier is the dehumidifier of your dreams, and of so many other people`s dreams. That is because, in addition to doing everything a dehumidifier should and can do and more, this model is also very nice and elegant.

This 70-pint, Energy Star dehumidifier will leave your home clean and fresh and will look like part of your modern furniture when other people come to visit. Add to that the advanced features like the top-mount display and control module, the continuous drain option and Friedrich’s earned reputation in terms of good customer support, and you have a winner.

D70BP is one of the highest rated dehumidifiers out there because it can gather the most moisture out of all the dehumidifiers that the market has to offer, can do it effectively and is backed up by a respectable (albeit lesser known) brand. And it has many other features that you will love and enjoy as well.

Basic Features:

  • The Energy Star system allows your dehumidifier to function on less electricity, which lowers your electric bill and helps the environment
  • It can gather up to 70 pints of moisture each day
  • You can set the dehumidifier for continuous draining
  • It has a built in pump which can pump condensation vertically or horizontally for up to 15 feet
  • It has a monitor which displays the temperature of the room and the level of humidity
  • The bucket is removable and has handles as well
  • It has a 24 hour timer

Top-mount Display and Digital Control

Friedrich D70BP is equipped with a digital touch control module mounted at the top of the unit that conveniently displays the humidity level and temperature inside the room. Although we advise using a separate device to measure the humidity percentage (especially if you have any health problems affected by humidity), this is a nice to have feature.

Two Drainage Options

All models come with removable condensate bucket (up to 16 pints.) and continuous drainage outlet.

DB70BP offers two drainage options. It includes a removable 16-pint bucket and a continuous drainage outlet that uses a built-in drain pump. The pump is used for the continuous operation mode, and can remove condensation from the dehumidifier using a hose for up to 15 feet.

Since it uses a pump instead of relying on gravity for drainage, it is more effective and set-and-forget when compared to other models on the market.

Sleek Design

Unlike most of the models on the market that look alike (and a bit ugly in my humble opinion), D70BP has a modern, sleek and elegant design that makes it look like a nice piece of furniture. The smart engineering makes sure that the appliance doesn’t gather any dust or hair that make dehumidifiers look dirty.

Practical Tips and Tricks

Although the dehumidifier comes equipped with a top display that monitors and shows the humidity level on any given room, if you have any medical condition that is affected by or makes you sensitive to humidity, we advise buying a separate device to measure the humidity in your living space. The humidistats used on most models are not accurate enough, so it may be better to go with a separate, more sensitive measuring device.

Dehumidifiers are like refrigerators or any other big appliances in the sense that they need to be grounded. So, if and when you buy this model (or any other dehumidifier for that matter), make sure that you use a 3 prong outlet, and ground the device. If you don’t have the means or don’t know how to do it, hire an electrician to make it so.

And our last bit of advice (which also goes for all other dehumidifiers) is not to keep the dehumidifier working non-stop if you can avoid it. This is because even an Energy Star dehumidifier like the Friedrich will consume quite a lot of electricity when used on a continuous basis. If running the device one or two hours a day is enough to reach a comfortable humidity level, do not run it any longer than that.

  • If you place it near a drain, you will not have to worry about emptying the bucket all the time, because the dehumidifier will drain itself automatically
Cons
  • The Friedrich D70BP 70 Pint Dehumidifier costs quite a bit, at around $250
  • Considering all of the things that it has, it may be a bit heavy, but this is made easier by the wheels that it comes with
Verdict
The Friedrich D70BP 70 Pint Dehumidifier is a very good dehumidifier model and it can remove up to 70 pints of moisture per day. This is the maximum any of the similar models on the market can remove from a room/space on a daily basis. Over 80% of the people that have used this dehumidifier before were very pleased with its performance and would recommend it to others.
