Philips Sonicare HX6212-05 2 Series Plaque Control Review

Philips Sonicare HX6211/05 2 Series plaque control rechargeable toothbrush is a low cost alternative for those who want a decent electric toothbrush that offers all the essential features you would expect without some of the bells and whistles offered by more advanced (and more expensive) models on the market. If you want a more advanced model, you can check out the other electric toothbrushes we have reviewed here. But if an entry model is OK for you, then read on.

The toothbrush is also equipped with some advanced features including Philips’ patented sonic technology (up to 31,000 strokes per minute), easy-start feature, dynamic fluid action, the two minute timer and a rechargeable indicator.

Detailed Features

Better oral health

Philips Sonicare HX6211/05 is an ideal toothbrush if you want a model that can reach the back teeth, remove up to 6 times more plaque than manual models and reduce the cavities, hence providing better oral health and hygiene if used regularly and according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Using the toothbrush twice a day for the full 2 minutes as specified, you will be able to greatly reduce cavities. Although the toothbrush has a few downsides as we will mention down the line, HX6211/05 is still a good alternative if you want an affordable electric toothbrush. You will notice a significant difference especially during the first few uses as your teeth will more likely look whiter and healthier. However, you should always remember that toothbrushes are not alternatives to dentist visits, and no matter how good your teeth look, you should never stop visiting your dentist.

Dynamic cleaning action

Philips’ patented Sonicare sonic technology helps drive fluid between the teeth and along the gum line which in turn offers better cleaning with a dynamic cleaning action.

Angled brush heads

One of the hardest things to do when brushing your teeth is to reach the back teeth for thorough cleaning and plaque removal. This Philips Sonicare model helps reaching the back teeth with a smartly angled brush head that provides easy and effortless access to back teeth and any other hard-to-reach spaces within your mouth. The easy grip handle also helps in this regard as it makes it easier to handle and maneuver the brush head in confined spaces like the back teeth.

Easy-Start Feature

If this will be your first electric toothbrush, then the Easy-Start feature will be of great help as it makes sure the toothbrush starts working slowly at first, and then gradually increases the speed over the first week. If you use it two times a day, you will get used to the speed and usage of the toothbrush as it smartly and slowly increases the speed during the first 14 uses.

Smartimer

As you may already know, experts indicate that you should spend 2 minutes brushing all your teeth (30 seconds for each quadrant of the mouth). The HX6212 is equipped with the Smartimer Feature (also seen on other Sonicare models like Sonicare Platinum) which provides you with a 2-minute timer to ensure that you actually spend two minutes brushing your teeth for better oral hygiene and optimum results. The only thing that annoyed us was that the timer didn’t have the 30 seconds warning to make the user do the switch to the next quadrant. But to be fair, very few of the electric toothbrushes provide such an advanced timer, and this is not a deal-breaker by any means.

A few problems

There are two problems we have found with Philips Sonicare HX6112/05 2 Series. The first problem is that the brush heads are not screw-on heads, which means that they will not go all the way in when inserted, and this causes the head to vibrate excessively when compared to other, more sophisticated models. Thus, the toothbrush is quite loud.

The second problem is that the charging base is a bit small and the toothbrush may tend to fall to the side, especially if not supported by a wall or any other vertical surface. Although this is annoying, you can easily overcome this problem by carefully placing the charging base in a suitable location where such a surface can balance the toothbrush and prevent it from tipping or falling over.

Although the problems we have noticed with this toothbrush are not present in more advanced models, you should remember that this is an entry level model (even the Easy-Start feature is aimed towards those who will be using an electric model for the first time) and priced accordingly (it costs about half of what such an advanced model actually costs).

Verdict

Cons
  • Entry level toothbrush; not as well-built as some other models

Verdict
Overall, Philips Sonicare HX6211/05 2 Series plaque control rechargeable toothbrush is a decent entry level product that can definitely help with better oral health and hygiene, especially if used regularly and in accordance with Philips’ recommendations. If this will be your first electric model, then go for it. But if you have used other electric toothbrushes before and want to upgrade to a better model, then this model can be a slight disappointment, and we’d actually recommend checking out the other models we have reviewed.
