How well does it clean? Is the suction really that good? In terms of sheer cleaning and suction power, Rug Doctor deep cleaner is simply one of the best machines on the market. Even if you have cleaned your carpets before, you will see a clear path when you first use this machine, making you wonder how good a job the previous machines really did. And if you have especially stubborn/old stains, you will see the power boost feature as a life saver as it can help remove the worst possible stains. Once the water and detergent are dispersed into the carpet, the powerful brushes will stir the carpet and raise all the dirt trapped on/between the fibers and the state of the art suction feature will remove all the water, solution and dirt back into the machine. From what I have seen, this Rug Doctor model is among the best models I have ever reviewed and has only two real rivals on the market: Bissell 86T3 and the Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3. Yes, the machine is really that good. How fast do the carpets dry after cleaning with Rug Doctor? Rug Doctor does an excellent job in drying the carpets as it vacuums almost 95% of the water back, leaving the carpets barely dumb. Of course it also depends on the type of carpet, the amount of water and a few other factors like air moisture but you can expect your carpets to be completely dry after about 2 hours under normal circumstances. Are the brushes easy to clean? Yes, the brushes can be popped up and cleaned with ease. You don’t need to turn the machine upside down to clean them. Can I use any cleaning solution? Yes, but I think Rug Doctor’s own solutions will provide somewhat better results, and protect the machine from any damages that could be caused by other solutions. Is there a rinse switch? No. You can simply use clear water without any cleaning solution and go over the targeted area if you need to rinse. Does it clean only when pulled or also when pushed? Like many other carpet cleaner models, Rug Doctor also cleans when you pull it back. The only exception I’ve seen to this is the Big Green. How does the upholstery tool perform on furniture and stairs? Just as well as the machine itself performs on carpets. However, if the stairs and/or upholstery are pretty dirty, you will need to scrub with the bristles since the machine will just disperse water and solution and suck them back. Basically, you need to mimic the movements you make with the machine when using the hand tool. How dependable is it? This is a nicely built machine that will most likely last for quite a long time under normal usage conditions. If you need to clean your carpets very frequently though, you may also look at the Mighty Pro X3 as it’s a sturdier machine. Do I add hot water myself or does it have an on-board heater? You just add hot tap water. The machine doesn’t have a heater. What about use on tile and hardwood floors? It nicely cleans tile floors with powerful rotating brushes but leaves quite a bit of water behind, so you will need to mop afterwards. But in the name of fairness, this is the case for all the other models. Do NOT use on hardwood. How heavy is it? Will I be able to easily move it around? This is an almost professional grade machine, so it’s a bit on the heavier side. But it’s also very well designed with special wheels that make it very easy to move around, so unless you would have to constantly lift it for some reason, I don’t think you’ll have any problems maneuvering it around.
